Advanced Fire Protection (AFP) was set up by Padraigh McEnaney in 2009, having previously worked as a senior fire-service engineer for almost 10 years.
A graduate of Engineers Ireland, Padraigh’s experience and expertise in the fire-safety industry are second to none.

Fire Alarm Service and Maintenance

We are an experienced team of engineers that supply, install, commission and maintain fire alarm systems.
The standards that govern all buildings are set out by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), Ireland’s official standards body.

Fully Functional

Regular servicing of fire-alarm systems is critical to ensuring that those systems are in working order. If maintained properly the lifespan of the system will be significantly extended.


It is a requirement for all insurance policies that regular and up-to-date maintenance is carried out on all systems to ensure that they are in working order.

Fire Risk Assessment

A Fire Risk Assessment is a systematic review of a premises and all the activities carried out there to establish the possibility of a fire occurring and the factors that may contribute to a fire breaking out. The Fire Risk Assessment identifies how these factors can be managed to prevent, contain or eliminate the possibility of a fire occurring.

The Fire Risk Assessment includes:

  • Identifying all potential fire hazards;
  • Assessing the likelihood of potential events and scenarios that may contribute or cause a fire;
  • Identifying who is at risk and how best to protect them and keep them safe;
  • Evaluating – assessing potential risks and the impact on people at risk, taking into account existing systems and control measure in place.


  • Recommendations – recommendations to ensure that the appropriate systems, procedures and controls are implemented to ensure the safety of all people (employees, customers, visitors, subcontractors etc..);
  • Action List – identifies the most appropriate action to be taken to ensure that fire hazards are avoided and/or risk reduced to a level that is acceptable and manageable given the resources available;
  • Systems – advice regarding systems that can be implemented to safeguard against accidents;
  • Controls – recommendations where risks can be reduced and/or eliminated and advice on appropriate control procedures.

Fire Safety Training

Training is a critical element of any Fire System Management Plan. To ensure the safety of all staff, customers, visitors, etc adequate timely fire safety training must be provided.

Best Practice

Best practise indicates that fire safety training be carried out every 12-18 months. Our training programmes are designed to meet the specific needs of our clients, with each tailored depending on the size and type of business.

Your Responsibility

The main legislation providing for the health and safety of people in the workplace is the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. The Act sets out the rights and obligations of both employers and employees and provides for substantial fines and penalties for breaches of the health and safety legislation. It is not enough to have state-of-the-art equipment if people do not know how to use it and what to do in case of a fire.

Employees need to understand the general principles of fire safety and what procedures are in place to ensure their safety and the safety of all other people on the premises.

Installation and Servicing of Emergency Lighting systems

We install and service emergency lighting systems for all types of premises. Emergency routes and exits require adequate illumination with emergency lighting in the event of power failure by law.

The maintenance of emergency lighting is essential to ensure the safety of all occupants in case of an emergency.

Ailish Tobin

Ailish has been with Advanced Fire Protection since it opened its doors in 2009.

She manages the accounts, credit control and payroll for Advanced Fire Protection and has over 20 years experience in services, sales, accounts and customer services. Ailish was employed with Flo Gas for 17 years, where she gained vast experience.

She is originally from Slane, but moved to Carrickmacross, 7 years ago on leaving Flo Gas. Ailish enjoys exploring the outdoor life!

Padraigh Mc Enaney

Padraigh set up Advanced Fire Protection (AFP) in 2009. Prior to setting up his own business Padraigh worked as a service engineer for nearly 10 years. Padraigh has extensive experience and expertise in the fire safety industry and completed his training with Engineers Ireland in 2010.

When Padriagh first set up AFP he started off with a handful of clients. The business had grown significantly since then and now provides a wide range of services to clients in the hotel, education, pharmaceutical, property management, medical, retail, manufacturing and tourism sectors. Clients include Radisson Hotel, Kingspan, Navan Shopping Centre, Boylesports, Meath County Council, Sligo County Council, Irish Pride and QM Specials.

Padraigh is passionate about his business, Cavan, food and meeting new people.

Luke Reilly

Luke is a qualified electrician, he joined Advanced Fire Protection in 2011. Luke is an Installation Engineer, he is responsible for the installation and maitenance of all fire safety systems.

Luke is from Kingscourt and has extensive experience working at a managerial level. Luke has extensive experience and expertise working for a wide range of companies in the private sector. He worked with Aran Electrical and QME Mining before joining Advanced Fire Protection.

He was successfully qualified as an Electrician in 2005 from Dundalk Institute and has since completed courses in Manual Handling, Safe Pass, MEWP, Confined Spaces and Welding.

Luke is a devoted Liverpool football supporter and enjoys travelling to support them.

Barry Mc Intyre

Barry recently joined Advanced Fire Protection where he is completing his training as an Engineer in fire maintenance and service. Barry is from Shercock. He spent many years overseas and has experience in different fields of employment, including steel fixing and plumbing.

Barry has completed Safe Pass, Manual Handling and MEWP. Barry loves car racing and being social.

Paul O Reilly

Paul is a Service and Maintenance Engineer with Advanced Fire Protection. He is responsible for ensuring that all fire safety systems are regularly serviced and maintained to comply with safety regulations.

Paul is from Bailieborough and graduated from Dundalk Institute as an Electrician in 2011 and was awarded the “Apprentice of the Year 2011”, he has completed the National Skills Award 2011, MEWP course, Manual Handling and Safe Pass.

Paul has a range of electrical experience in domestic, commercial and industrial areas. Paul is a football fanatic.

Carol Anne Culleton

Carol Anne recently joined Advanced Fire Protection, she is actively involved in the day to day running of the business.

Carol Anne has experience in the legal sector and worked for a number of semi-state bodies.
Her core experience is in planning, project management and administration.

Carol Anne is originally from Glasgow and now living in Shercock.
She took time out to bring up her children and is delighted to be back working in the professional area.
When Carol Anne gets time she likes to spend time in the garden.

Rory Kennedy

Rory works with the team at Advanced Fire Protection installing and maintaining state of the art security systems.

He is from Kingscourt and has extensive experience and expertise working in the UK and Ireland with over 20 years experience in the security installation business. Rory has experience in installing alarms for businesses of all sizes and types (factories, schools, fuel depots, retail, medical and domestic). Rory is a active member of the NSAI and the Private Security Authority (PSA).

When not working hard, Rory likes to squeeze in a bit of water sports and outdoor adventure stuff.

Darren Finnegan

I have 18 years experience within the M.E.P. sector, specifically within the industrial and commercial industry.

I am an electrician by trade and have worked overseas and in Ireland since 1995, I am enthusiastic and professional a great team member and a good problem solver.

Tom McEnaney

Tom McEnaney (BA, BAI, MIEI, MAJ) is a qualified engineer whose primary degree is in civil, structural and environmental engineering from Trinity College Dublin.

Tom is a media consultant with over 20 years experience in Irish media. He works primarily as a media strategist specializing in Irish corporate media and crisis management. His current client list includes a number of multinational firms, one of the largest foreign banks in the Irish market, a large private-equity firm and one of the world’s largest stockbroking firms.

Tom is the former business editor of both the Irish Independent, Ireland’s best-selling daily newspaper, and The Sunday Times (Ireland). He has held senior positions with The Irish Times, Business & Finance Magazine, The Sunday Tribune and Today FM, where he established, edited and presented The Sunday Business Show.

Tom holds a master’s degree in journalism from Dublin City University.
